MEET OUR VOLUNTEERS

We make a lot of effort to help achieve the global poverty rate decline, support education for children living in poor families.

OUR VISION

As per the Statistics of the Government of India, 21.7% of the total population of 125 crore i.e. about 28 crore people are living below poverty line. As per the definition of poverty line, any person having income of Rs. 972/month and less than in rural area and below Rs. 1500/month in urban areas is said to be under poverty line. More than one half of the population below poverty line belongs to Sikligars, Banjaras, Satnamis and Lubanas etc. The Vision of Guru Nanak Educational Trust is to help the children belonging to poor and destitute families get education and skill development so that they could become self employed or employable. For this purpose Bhai Baaz Singh Public School has been opened where free education up to 10th standard is provided and has been established at UK.

OUR MISSION

The Children are provided free uniforms books and lunch at the council’s expense. As the parents of the children is living below poverty line are likely to prefer the children to earn a few rupees than get educated, the council has also provided facilities to the mother so that they can learn the art of sewing and stitching and thus earn some money for the maintenance of family. After the students complete 10th class they are financially helped to join 11th and 12th classes in other schools. Besides that Council is having centers at UK so that suitable and needy students could be helped at those places. It is hoped that school at UK will act as a beacon and would be in a position to provide technical knowhow to others NGO’s for establishing similar schools in the different places in the country.

Empowering the Underprivileged: Support for 5th Class Students

We are committed to helping children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds secure a brighter future. At Govt. Elementary Smart School, Preet Nagar, we provide extra coaching to 5th-class students whose parents live below the poverty line, including families from nearby Jhuggi colonies and the Sikligar community (Scheduled Caste). Our goal is to prepare these students to clear the entrance test for admission to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Hoshiarpur, located 16 km from Ajjowal village. JNV offers free education, boarding, lodging, uniforms, textbooks, and stationery from Class VI to XII, making it an invaluable opportunity for rural children. Last year, one student qualified for JNV Hoshiarpur. This year, 11 students appeared for the entrance test, and we are hopeful they will join JNV, paving the way for a transformative educational journey aligned with CBSE standards. Initially its empowered teams are spread over Punjab and Haryana and they play a large role in understanding the complex issues faced by the children belonging to the people below poverty line and persuading the parents to send their children not only in the school run by council but also in other schools. Partnering with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) shares our vision of providing quality education to talented rural children, regardless of their socio-economic background. With a focus on modern education, cultural values, environmental awareness, and physical development, JNV Hoshiarpur offers a nurturing environment for students. For children from below-poverty-line families, including those we support, education at JNV is entirely free, with exemptions from fees for BPL students, girls, and Scheduled Caste communities. Through our coaching initiatives, we bridge the gap between potential and opportunity, helping students secure admission to this prestigious institution.
